    Storage place

    Hello,

I would like more details on where the profile is stored in the Windows XP and in what format? Is it possible to reach and modify it.

The same with dictionary, Is there any possibilty to reach it and modify it I know that It's possible to add words using tools but I would like to know where it is stored.

Thanks for your reply in advance.

    Re: Storage place

Microsoft has a tool to save/restore/move the user profiles:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=cd72250f-2e02-430e-8f99-e1acae760564

but AFAIK the format of the files involved isn't public.

When you say dictionary I'm guessing you mean the lexicon, on my system it's stored here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Speech\Files\UserLexicons

It's probably part of the files that are packaged up by the profile tool, but I don't know that for sure. Again I don't think that the format of the lexicon file is public.

Is there something in particular you are trying to do?

    Re: Storage place

    Hello John,

Really helpful reply ,actually I thought I can replace the English lexicon with some other lexicon like persian ,since microsoft doesn't have any support for Persian language.Do you think is it possible to do that?

For profile also I thought it will be intersting if I can move it to some other computer also and with this tool that you have introduced it's possible.

I've been searching two months to find the answer to my questions and you just help me alot. tahnks again.

    Re: Storage place

As I understand it the lexicon is just a listing of how words are broken down into phonemes, including possible variations (you say t ax m ey t ow and I say t ax m aa t ow). But the phoneme recognition itself is built into the engine, and the Microsoft engine only recognizes English phonemes. You might be able to fake some Persian words out of sound alike English phonemes, but the results would probably be non-optimal. Still for a limited grammar solution it might be good enough.
