    Speech Related Workflow

    Dear All,

I'm trying to work on a certain project and i was hoping to get some answers and help, The idea of the project is to create a voting system, the manager will create a question, specify certain users and then system will call these users to get their response. My understanding is that to do that i will host a workflow for this system (Not a speech workflow) and this workflow will be responsible for recieving the initial call from the manager and calling the outbound calls to the users who are supposed to vote.

Problem: I'm looking for a way to avoid the need to create my own host for the workflow which will manage latency, wait times,...,etc for the general workflow. Is it possible to host it with the Speech Server or Do I really need a place to host the Workflow?

    Re: Speech Related Workflow

I'm confused. You say the workflow is not a speech workflow bu then you state it is responsible for receiving the initial call from the manager.

I would thing that using a web page to setup the questions from the manager and select the users would be a better approach. Once the manager is done then the web app could just put the call information into the MSQ queue that Speech Server is monitoring.

Hey Marshall, thank for your help I realize my post is a little confusing, Actually the problem im trying to tackle is that i want to create a workflow that is not a speech workflow, however, this workflow will initiate a couple of calls using the MSQ queue to trigger a certain voice application. Can i host this workflow on the speech even though it is not a speech workflow? Sorry for the confusion

That sounds like what Anthony has answered in the other thread.

    Re: Speech Related Workflow

The description seems different than the one Anthony responded to. If I understand you properly you are saying you have long-running business process (hours or even days to complete) and you want a workflow you've built for that business process to generate outbound calls?

Are you placing calls to collect information on which the workflow then makes a decision on and continues execution?

A bit more detail on the business process and the workflow might help.

    Re: Speech Related Workflow

Sorry if I misunderstood the post.

The other post (http://gotspeech.net/forums/thread/6125.aspx) wanted to know if Speech Server could host a workflow. I assumed that it refers to manager's piece of the app that sets up the  people to dial and the message.

I am a purist - I don't want anything on my Speech Server but speech applications. I would recommend hosting it elsewhere and once the workflow completes all the approval process just put the call info into MSMQ and let Speech Server kick off from the queue.

    Re: Speech Related Workflow

Thank you for your help :)

So you would suggest that i don't mix my workflows with my speech server workflows is that correct?

Just for my own info, disregarding the right way to do it or the best practice just to understand the capabilities of the workflow , can speech server host the non-speech workflows or not?

    Thanks again

    Re: Speech Related Workflow

Yes the business process does take days but i need some of the activities in the workflow to depend on voice response applications in other words yes i am collecting data using voice applications. Is this clearer?
