starting to plan similar events for the central and western regions.
In the east we attracted over 100 people in the 4 cities. I would
like to see that number grow for the next round of events.

I wonder
what we can do to attract more people to attend the event. There was a
significant, but not atypical drop off between registration and
attenedance. Stuff always comes up. One thought is to shorten the
format to 1/2 or 3/4 of a day. I think the full day schedule may turn
some people away. The other challenges are securing the meeting rooms and
lining up speakers. Let me know your thoughts on the Speech Server Days
and I will take it from there.

Commitment to Speech

The amount of work that Microsoft is putting into speech is a strong
testament to their commitment to this market. Last week I saw speech
demos of MSS 2007, Exchange 12 and Vista. All of them showed great
accuracy and an emphasis on a more natural language interface.

I was particularly impressed with how Vista handled the automatic
switchinig between dictation and navigation. The speech rec features
looked a lot easier to use then the similar package from Dragonsoft.

ScottW from Cantata's Blog

Thanks for Marshall for setting up a Blog site for me.

One observation that I want to make is the many different types of speech applications we are seeing with MSS. The variety and range of speech applications is remarkable. In the last 6 months we have seen the following:

Hospitals managing the flow of people and equipment

e-Commerce with email delivery of spoken requests for info

Transportation and delivery tracking

Speech access to mapping/direction programs

Speech access to Instant Messaging

Temporary workforce tracking

Outbound notification for appointment reminders

Consumer marketing via cellphone
www.cantata.com/news/press_releases/2006/040406_direct2mobile.cfm

This shows me how MSS is helping to bring speech to mainstream applications. I would love to hear about what other interesting applications people are seeing.
