Marshall Harrison - "the gotspeech guy"

Site news, Speech Server insight and assorted ramblings
"Marshall" back at Landstar? - too weird to be true

I got an email a few days ago that started like this:

This will sound strange, but a new Martial will be filling the vacant IVR position at Landstar.  I'm very excited about the possibilities.  It looks like I've got some big shoes to fill.  ....

Yes that's right, my old position is being filled by someone with the same name as me (though spelled differently). I called my old boss Dave and accused him of missing me so much that he had to hire someone with the same name as me. Or maybe he did it so as to not confuse himself. This way he can still blame things on "Marshall" :-)

Regardless of the reason I bet it will feel weird having someone there with my name in my old job.

I wish Martial well and hope to see him around GotSpeech. Don't worry about the "big shoes". I'm not that good, I just have a good PR department (me).

I love it when you say "I'm not that  good".  Just a few years ago, Speech Server had very limited publicity and it was considered largely a niche product.  Since you  went live with GotSpeech, you and GotSpeech have become names that most .NET developers have heard of and all speech folks know. In that time frame, lots of blogs  and communities have started, but I challenge you to show me many others that have built as solid a reputation as GotSpeech has and has as dedicated a following.  I was just at a client the other day who was telling me he uses GotSpeech as his information center b/c he can always find answers on it and the quality of answers is that good.  when people use you're stuff instead of Microsoft's  - you can't claim "I'm not that good"

With all due respect buddy, that doesn't happen by accident and it doesn't happen by "not being that good" at something.  Last I looked, that only happens by being a bad a55 , knowing your trade inside and out and working really darned hard.

As far as Landstar goes, that's a weird coincidence. Marshall is a fairly distinct name and having two folks with the same name that worked as the speech guys, well, it's a neat coincidence

Thanks for the kind words.

If GotSpeech has a great reputation it's because of all the good people that hang out here.

Some of you know that while I was working for Landstar I wrote an outbound application that won Speech
