Marshall Harrison - "the gotspeech guy"

Site news, Speech Server insight and assorted ramblings
No more Speech Server MVP

That's right, Speech Server is no longer an MVP competency. I was checking my MVP profile yesterday and I noticed that my proficiency has been changed to Office Communication Server (OCS). I knew this was coming but I was a little surprised to see it happen so soon. I guess Microsoft is getting ready for the future.

I'm excited about the change in MVP status and I'm going to be evangelizing OCS every chance I get but I'm not going to forget my Speech Server roots. That would be like forgetting your first love. Ain't going to happen. No way.

I hate the new name, I think that while "Speech Server" wasn't really the right choice either, "Communication Server" isn't all that great either. I think people will associate it only to LCS.

Did they make the LCS MVPs change to OCS also?

Currently they are still listed as LCS though I think they will change too. I don't know when (or if) but I'm surprised that I went first.

I will be interested to see how they are going to package these together. I thought maybe they will have seperate installations, an option for MSS and another option for LCS, but I'm not sure now. You would think that there will be a way to distigish the functionailty seperately. Not every one who wants LCS is going to want MSS and the other way around.

I agree with your assessment Michael.

I have talked with the Speech server team about this but I still don't have the full picture on pricing etc. I guess we will have to wait and see.
