Site news, Speech Server insight and assorted ramblings
Comcast Did it to me again

As you may have noticed GotSpeech.NET has had some service interruptions this morning. That makes the second time this week that Comcast has had area problems.

This time they swapped out my cable modem as well as the splitter. Brandon tested the site after things were back up and said that it seems faster (at least between Dallas, TX and Jacksonville, FL).

Comcast still has some problem upstream in my area that seems to cause packets to drop and pings to time out easily in the morning. Later in the morning things seem to get better.

I apologize for the down time but it is out of my control. I can't afford to place the site with any of the major hosting providers at this time and hosting from home is my most economical option.

It's now 5:00 PM EST and I'm still having some issues with the site being slow. I'll sure be glad when they get this issue fixed.

4-27-06 0730 AM EDT - Spoke with Comcast. They have a technician scheduled to come out and check the lines today.

4-27-06 0330 PM EDT- Just received word that Comcast was back out to check the lines around 11:00 AM and found no problems. I immediately called Comcast tech support and they were able to observe the problem with ping times jumping up into the 400-500 millisecond range. They are sending another tech out Monday morning and I'll be there waiting for him :-)

Ok, that explains why I've had problems accessing the site.  I've been checking it regularly at night (PDT), and consistently encounter severe delays in loading pages (minutes, not seconds).  Hopefully Comcast will get its act together and get unplug your pipes (things are working well tonight)...

Thanks for the report Jeff.

I'm staying after Comcast on this issue. Hopefully it will get fixed. It first showed up last week and has been intermittent since.

Please just bear with us.

I have Comcast for my home use too.  Initially (2+ years ago) it was very unreliable.  I actually had an ISDN backup set up.  The last 12 months have been much better.  Very occasionally my router goes down or the cable mobile needs to be rebooted.

I hope your service improves.
